Day 30: New Addition

Meet the new addition to our family. He is a 12-week old Desert Lynx and Himalayan mix.

Although Glenn claims he is not a cat person, this little guy will surely win his heart. He is a cuddle-bug. We have debated on whether or not we wanted a dog since we left NC, so we have been watchful on craigslist and the pet rescue sites since we got here. We've even met some interesting folks who work with or breed dogs, mostly Schnauzers, Doxies or Yorkies but nothing felt right. So this weekend, as we took our evening stroll we discussed the possibility of getting a kitten. I'd found some beautiful Siamese on craigslist, and Glenn has always liked Siamese cats. After a couple of days he told me to check around and see what was out there. I did. I found this little guy in the on-line classified ads of Grant's Pass newspaper. He was free and already had his first shots and worming.

We actually talked about getting 2 but the breeder only had him and his sister left from the litter. He came right to me and nestled against my chest, unlike his squeamish sister who scratched me all up, so I took only him. He and I have had a wonderful day today. (Sunday) Glenn went in to work not long after I got home with him. We are still thinking of a good name for him.

Day 29: Magic Jack

A guy here at the KOA told us about this product called Magic Jack.

If you have Internet service of any kind, you can "purchase" a Magic Jack USB on line or over the phone which you can connect to a home phone and the computer. You log in, choose a telephone number and you're off. For less than $20 a YEAR you have free long distance, free local calls, voice mail, directory and caller ID. Yes, that is not a typo, Less than $20 a year!!! It will sure save on the cell phone minutes! We plan to try it for the trial period and if we like it we will reduce our cell phone plan and save some money! As an RVer it is great because most RV parks and some gas stations/travel stops and even some rest areas have Internet service and/or Wi-fi. Check it out for yourself at www.magicjack.com

Day 27 Hangin' out at home

It was really cool today. I don't think it reached 60 degrees! We cleaned "the basement" and then Glenn cleaned the car. We sat outside most of the day. We built a fire and relaxed.

Take a look at these steaks we grilled for lupper. (late lunch early dinner)

Then we went walking. It was a nice leisurely day.

Day 26: Crescent City, CA

We took a stroll along the short beach at Crescent City. It is called that because it is shaped like a crescent.

There is a lighthouse that you can only reach during low tide.

All along the beach were drift wood pieces and dried up seaweed, so I was surprised to find a tine little shell in tact. I picked it up to bring back with me. It was wet inside so I poured out the water.

It smelled like the ocean was purging but there was no foam like there is back home when the ocean does that. He was amazed that there was wood stacked up for a bon-fire

As we walked to the car the smell kept getting worse and worse.

Finally, I thought, maybe it is the sea shell I picked up. Sure enough it was! Now my hands reeked! I walked over to the public restroom, and of course, they didn't have soap. So we got in the car to head home. Even with the window down I stunk! We stopped to get gas ($4.54 for regular unleaded in California!) so I could wash my hands...they had soap! Thank God! A two hour ride with that smell was not something we were looking forward to.

Day 26 continued: Mystery of Trees

This display is at the Mystery of the Trees, Klamath, California.

They had a Native American museum here, but you can't use flash photography so we didn't get any pics other than the statue out front.

This area was home to several different Indian tribes. We past one town that had several buildings for the Yupon Tribe.

Day 26 California - Redwoods to shining sea...

We visited the northern coast of California today.

We traveled through the Redwood National Forest. We are very impressed with the size of these massive trees.

That is our Saturn driving through this tree, actually it is Glenn driving our Saturn through this tree.

Many of these trees are right beside the road. I would think that as they grow their root system would destroy the roads, which may be why there were 3 places along this route that they were repairing the roads and the traffic was down to one lane.
We rounded one corner and saw the Pacific Ocean! (((sigh))) This vista point overlooks Crescent City, California. I love the ocean and thought I was in heaven on the southern east coast beaches...but there is nothing like seeing the mountains and redwoods to your left and the coastline to your right!
We took a walk on the beach at another place on our route. I could have sat here all day just looking at the rocks jutting out of the ocean.

But it was really windy and quite cold!

Look at this grey-black-ish colored sand. This was very different for us since we are used to having to traipse through vast amounts of thick golden sand to reach the beach.

Day 24: Things are not always as they appear

Today started off good but the afternoon tool at crazy turn. We were blessed with a little bundle that did not bring us much joy.

We met alot of people this afternoon as we tried to figure out this little guy, which is actually a girl...another lie from the person dropping him/her off at the campground. We realized we were not told all the facts about this little guy, so off to the groomer to get the mats cut out and a much needed bath then to a vet. She is now with a breeder & Yorkie rescuer who places dogs in good homes and hopefully will have a new family tomorrow. She was a very sweet dog, but we just aren't ready for that responsibility ourselves and when we are we want something much younger than a 12 year old on it's last leg.
